SPCA

Before I begin, THINKING SKILLS is OVER!!! No more... Woohoo~! Though, it wasn't easy. Tsk tsk.

Bye bye=)

Last Sunday was fun fun fun. Together with the Leo Club, we went to volunteer at SPCA. I have been there with Scouts a few years back, it still looks the same and the dogs are as always all very very cute.

First of all, we separated the chicken neck and some of its meat for the big and small dogs. There must have been a lot of chicken to provide so many necks, unless chickens have more than one neck! There was this dog that was in a cage next to the food and the dog was so......... greedy. It sure says a lot when others started calling it "Samantha". PfftXD

After that, we were too give out all the food. Some dogs would jump on you the moment you enter the cage with the food, those are happy dogs. Some, the scared and probably abused ones would shun aside and stay away until you are out of sight. There are some that don't even finish their food. That's a first for me - I have never seen any dogs that don't finish their meat.

SPCA, its staff and volunteers should be applauded, they are just amazing. Even though they have lots of dogs and cats, it is very good to see they do not over-crowd the cages. The dogs have plenty of space to move around and play. It can be clearly seen that they really do care for the animals. They have names for each and every one of the pets there. Gosh, imagine remembering them!

As most would know, SPCA have pets up for adoption. The puppies going for adoption are just like any other dogs in a pet shop. Why pay so much for the same thing? They are so jumpy when you come near. They are so small the you want to hug them, but too afraid you might squish them. When you place your fingers inside the cage to try to pet them, they would start playing with you and bite your fingers. Good thing their bites don't hurt a bit. And if there are two of them in a cage, probably siblings and you are only giving attention to one, the other would start to whimper and want to join in the fun.
So if you want a pet, go SPCA. No other better place, it's a win-win situation.

I would have gladly taken those two puppies home. But my plans do not put me at home for the next few years, then who's going to take care of them? Send them back there? That's very unfair, they would have less chances to be adopted at an older age. Not only that, do I have the time to provide them the attention and love? A2 is coming, not funny at all.

Having a pet is not easy as it seems. There are a few questions you have to ask yourself:
Do you have time for it?
Can you be wholly responsible for it, from it's health to it's behavior?
This must be stress upon - can you give it the attention it deserves?
Are you going to be consistent in taking care for it in the next 15 years or more?
Can you even take care of yourself? I would always get that question when I want a dog.
There are many other questions and these are just a few of them.

And after asking yourself all these question and you are still sure that you can care for a pet. YAY!!!! Go right ahead. Another member in your family.

If you already have enough pets at home or you are not interested or for some other reason you don't want a pet, that doesn't mean SPCA does not need you.

I am very sure they would want you and you friends' help of whatever kind - from donations to fund raising projects to volunteering. If one day, you have nothing in your schedule, why not call SPCA and offer your assistance. I assure you would have lots of fun. The dogs are so friendly and happy (well, most of them). It would be a day very well spent.
